I have started listening to TWiP from the very first (available) episode. There are so many helpful tips and photography insight that I see photography differently. I have a better understanding of equipment and techniques. It's an amazing asset for an amateur photographer.

It can't be easy to make audio podcasts on something as visual as photography, but Valérie does an excellent job. Whether you're looking for inspiration on what to shoot, locations to visit, gear to buy, or even copyright issues to consider, Valérie has it covered. I especially enjoy the interviews with international photographers that are often included. The associated webpage adds another level to the rich educational experience.

I stumbled upon these recently and have really enjoyed them. I’m not much of a podcast listener, but I discovered Valerie through my Digital Photography School readings and started listening during my driving commutes to work. Although many of the tips from her guests in those segments are similar, and what many of us may have heard or read with respect to street photography, there are always a few nuggets to be found. What I’ve really enjoyed has been hearing from and learning about some of the other photographers out there, how they shoot, project ideas, and encouragement. Overall, they make you want to go out and take pictures. I learned too about the Out of Chicago Photography Conference this coming June and hope to be able to make it and meet and maybe shoot with some of these inspirational folks! Keep it up Valerie, these are really enjoyable!

Valerie brings in some of the best street photographers on the planet!

Street Focus is one of my favorite photography podcasts. I really enjoy that the focus stays away from gear and stays on experiencing local culture and telling meaningful stories with your images. I almost always come away with some new thought or idea to try out the next time I pick up my camera. Plus, the Streets of the World episodes are like mini-vacations, where listeners can hear about other places and cultures. I haven’t decided if these episodes help me satisfy my travel bug, or continue to expand my list of places to visit.

Valerie has wonderful and delightful energy. I’m now enthusiastic about a form of photography that I once feared. Can’t wait to get on the streets. …. I wanted to amend my comments. Listening now for over a month. Love this podcast. On the road next week with my camera; starting in Vegas and driving 1,000 miles over 4 days to see the great southwest, I’ll be looking for great street photography opportunities. Thanks for the inspiration, insights, tips and encouraging attitude.

I actually try and avoid cities but I love the knowledge and interesting methods that Valerie offers here. I think we can learn more from people doing the things we don’t than staying in our only little worlds. Great podcast

I just started listening to Street Focus a few weeks ago, and I can confidently say that it has changed my life! I have been dabbling in various genres of photography (everything but street) for about 4 years, never really feeling 100% inspired by the various subjects I was shooting. One day, when searching for photography podcasts to listen to, I stumbled upon Street Focus. I was intrigued by the welcoming “Bonjour!” Valérie says at the beginning of each episode because I love France and their beautiful language. Listening to Valérie was immediately inspiring! She has such a passion for street photography, and it is contagious! When she talked about including the “human element” in photos, I finally realized what was missing in my photos: people! While landscapes are beautiful to shoot every now and then, I have now discovered how amazing it is to capture the beauty of the human spirit in my images. On a recent trip to Chicago, I was able to incorporate many of the principles Valérie has taught me through her podcast to capture some amazing images. Never before have I come back from my travels feeling this excited about my photos! Her podcast has inspired me to really immerse in a city and capture what makes it so beautiful: its people. Valérie is inspiring. You will want to pick up your camera and immediately “hit the streets” after every show. You won’t regret listening to this podcast; it may very well shape your photographic life, as it has mine! Merci, Valérie!!

Valerie really knows her street shooting, and provides a fun format for getting more comfortable with approaching this genre as well as interesting guests, challenges, and places to go hit the streets!

My new favorite podcast!

Valerie is doing and excellent job mixing different aspects of street photography, various locations, and always asking for practical tips. I think the last few episodes are better than some of the earlier ones - more relaxed in the interview, better flow, etc. Best of all is gear is a small part of the discussion, emphasis is on taking photos just because that's what we like to do.

This is the most exciting new photography podcast I’ve heard in a while. The 30 minute format is excellent and the “right size” for an interview about street photography. The international flavor of interviewing street photographers from cities around the world gives us insights to new potential vacation destinations; and lets the person being interviewed proudly share what is unique about these destinations - in a way that all photographers can find useful. The companion web site at thisweekinphoto dot com is an excellent place to find links to content that was discussed.

Before listening to Valerie’s Street Focus podcasts, I always had reservations about doing “street photography.” Her excellent guidelines along with encouraging interviews have helped me take that first step “into the street.” I look forward to your upcoming podcasts. Keep up the great work!

Im listening all the episodes one after another, so many good stuffs and really great photographers to know on each interview. It’s a great podcast to learn about street photography and if you think that you know everything you’ll know new photographers to see their work. Continue with the excellent work!

Street photography is always a neat topic and it is awesome to now have a dedicated podcast from TWiP (thanks Valerie!). Definitely give this a listen, lots of great insight and advice, it has definitely given me motivation to get out and shoot more.

Finally! A podcast about one of my favorite subjects and is sourced from the same masterminds that deliver me with This Week in Photo. Is easy to side with Valerie's enthusiasm and passion for this art and my inquisitive mind is engaged in a trance in which questions and answers are woven into an amicable, fast and very enlightened conversation. Congratulations and best wishes for this podcast. I like the way you guys think.

Valerie does a great job and presents street photography in a personal and warm way. Her interviews are well done and informative. It is very refreshing to hear a podcast free of too much self promotion.

Valerie's Street Focus podcast is great. I have always enjoyed hearing her on TWIP, and now she has her own fabulous podcast. Her insights on street photography are instructive and her format is well-rounded, alternating between Q&A, interviews, etc. great job! Downloading the latest edition as I write.

I have listened to Valerie for quite awhile on TWIP and was thrilled to hear she was starting a street focused podcast. I love the different weekly topics which I expect will continue to keep the show fresh and relevant. I particularly like the third show in her rotation which gives listeners advice on where to shoot street photography in cities around the world. I look forward to keeping these episodes in my podcast library and re-listening when my travels take me to these locations. Valerie is a expert on the topic and a great host!

I recently attended Valerie’s Paris workshop and listening to her new podcast is almost like being there (almost). Her passion, knowledge and talent shine through. I highly recommend “street Focus” for anyone interested in street photography or just the craft of photography.

In the first episode, I listened to the plans for the podcast and got enthused with variety and the innovative ideas. I was struck with the definition that street photography is “the study of ordinary life”. That took the pressure off for me. Of course, Frederick van Johnson’s hand is on this. That means that it will be instructive, encouraging and fun. I’m ready to expand my experiences with people and places using my GX7 to allay my fears.

I am excited for this topic focused podcast to start. I have listened to TWIP for a while, and always try to catch Valerie when she guests hosts or is featured on other podcasts talking about her work and her workshops. I really like the idea of the rotating format to keep things fresh.
