Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

38

Set in nineteenth century New England, Little Women follows the lives of the four March sisters-Jo, Beth, Amy and Meg. The novel is a classic rites of passage story, that has often split literature critics but has been adored by many over the years. Intended as a book for young girls, the book is too sentimental for some but plenty of adults and young men have Little Women firmly featured in their best books of all time. The pace of the novel can be slow at times and the language almost too perfect but the overall sympathetic tone of Alcott wins over the reader. The book is semi-autobiographical, with Jo Marsh mirroring the life of an ambitious Alcott. Just like Alcott, Jo is a strong, independent woman who is fighting through her domestic duties to do what she truly loves. Writing is Jo’s passion and in a world where women are expected to put personal growth aside in order to withhold traditional family values, she is met with many challenges. “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” The book speaks to every woman that has had to fight against convention. With their father away at war, the four sisters pull together to support each other but still have time to search for their own identity. These ‘little women’ are not children but young adults finding their way via love, religion and confidence. Whilst it may seem sad that the sisters do have to conform to some extent, if you read between the lines there is so much inspiration for young female readers.

    Great story!
I was so pleased to learn that I could listen to little women for free on here!! I love the narrator, she does a great job. I am really enjoying it❤️ Thx again, A.R.B💋💄🐷🍉 P.s despite what the other readers say, the woman who does it is great. But I do agree, the man who does it is too deep and boring. No acents!!

Some wonderful narrations and some very difficult ones
Some of the narrators are very gifted readers making the words have life and vision to a beautiful story. While one female reader was so difficult to listen to that I wanted to skip entire chapters. She didn’t seem to take a breath between sentences. At times she would be so short of breath that she barely got through some words. I wish Mary Anderson had read the entire book!

    2 Hurrahs for Little Women
Great book, good narrators, and I’m thankful for this audio book being available. There were a few narrators that made it difficult to listen. One, being a gentleman, was confusing to my mind as the the book is told by a woman and about women. (And the men they love) Another, which narrated a few chapters, including the second to last, was difficult to listen to as well as difficult to understand easily. Especially so as I usually listen at 2 speed. Still recommend.

    Good book
The book is awesome I absolutely love it and all the fun characters and the story plot. But I only gave it 4 stars because the second and the last readers. I didn’t like them telling the story because the second reader had absolutely no feelings while reading the book. And the last i believe that this story should be told by a woman’s voice not a mans voice because the story is told by a woman. But other than that I absolutely love the book and would definitely recommend this story.

    Love the book
The narrator talks so fast. But it’s a lot better if you slow it down a little.
  • please fix the game !!!!
    Good but so so reader
Amazing but the reader’s voice is weird... no offense...

    Horrible.
This podcast is literally so bad. Just read the book. The lady who reads it sounds like she has a stuffy nose, and it’s so monotonous. She does Amy’s voice so high pitched.

MAN & HEAVY ACCENTS NEED TO STOP
Please please take heavy accents and the man off. The heavy accents are VERY hard to understand and I can’t imagine a man narrating it and he also has no emotion while reading. But otherwise it’s really great! I love it👍🏻

    Little women
You should not let people with such heavy accents do the narration. And this one that sounds like an older lady has no emotion and never takes a breath. Ruined the whole chapter about Jo finally finding love.

    Great book
The book was amazing. I have tried to read this book many times but was always to busy to finish it. It is easy to listen to in the car. So I finally read the book I have been wanting to read forever!😍

    Ok
The story itself is not what I am reviewing here, but the narration. The narrator for chapters 1-3,5, and 6 was very irritating to me. I was very relieved to find she did not narrate the entire book. There were several other narrators through the rest of the book and I found some of them to be quite enjoyable. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to listen to this book, it is one I’ve always wanted to read but have yet to find the time. These recordings are a great blessing to me as I can listen while I’m driving, therefore allowing me the chance to “read”books I’ve always wanted to read.

    Okay
Okay audiobook. Her voice was just boring. But it’s free what can you expect.

    Good, but hard to understand
The voice actor for this book has a very thick accent and it is difficult to get used to understanding her voice. All in all, a great audiobook-so happy it's free, and nice to have
