JdkdrnebsFun showI am a sucker for any kind of podcast that discusses film. While I don’t always agree with the taste of the hosts (sometimes more subtle or understated performances are ragged on for not being showy enough) it’s always a fun listen to hear their opinions and they are always engaging to listen to. Art is subjective so I don’t have to always agree. They have also sent me to check on some films I hadn’t considered watching and really enjoyed.

JfaykSlow declineThe show started strong but the last several have been increasingly dominated by Joe being creating ludicrous justifications for his grudges and dominating the conversation…and not for the best. Brandon has also taken to saying “um” multiple times per sentence.

Ryan_M_Great show by two great guys! While I don’t agree with them on every point or movie, I can’t get enough of Brandon and Joey and their wonderful chemistry on this show! One of my favorite listens on a weekly basis!

MirrorBallSon465Beyond Fun!Found this through a different podcast Joey was on as a guest- and to be honest I’m super into this. Was nervous as I didn’t know really what to expect but both Brandon and Joey are all about the experience they both give here, and they both balance each other our personality wise. Joey is loud and energetic like a line of cocaine, while Brandon is quieter and meek like a cup of tea and it fits here. Keep it up, both are super entertaining

JustGiveMeTheRebootWould Be Better if it was just BrandonInteresting podcast but one of the hosts (Joey) just makes the same jokes again and again. He’s repetitive, comes off as ignorant and stubborn, and thinks being loud means his opinion is important. Brandon has thoughtful takes that make me reconsider my beliefs on certain movies and makes me want to revisit them. I’d be stoked if it was Brandon and other guests, but Joey really drags this podcast down... a lot.

PapaJupe13Fun listen.I like these guys. I listened for the first time recently when Be Kind Rewind was on and I continue to come back. Even though I often disagree with some opinions expressed, I never find the guys obnoxious or pretentious. And that makes it fun. I hope they continue the show after they catch up to the most current Oscars. I would stick around for the same format with Best Actor and Supporting Actor. I only reason I don't give this the full 5 stars is "category fraud". Every time it is brought up, I cringe. And it is brought up a lot. It is an Oscar fact of life and it feels bad man when performances they rave about are ranked lower than ones they are "meh" about because of some perceived category fraud. But this is just a personal peeve, hardly a big deal. I do really enjoy the show and hope they continue beyond the current year...or I guess it will be next year when they catch up?

kyaasiFrustratingIt’s challenging — frustrating, I mean — to listen to something I’m passionate about and listen to throat clicks and a collection of letter that aren’t words throughout the analysis. Also too... 🤬

PeruvianMamaFun & InsightfulBrandon & Joey are an amazing duo. Both are so much fun to listen to, Joey with his witty banter and then Brandon with his natural sly remarks. Listening to them is like a drug, and I need more- feeling like a junkie without new episodes daily.

Dr. Percy.ReviewJust listened to the one with Ghost. I find both Joey and Brandon really entertaining. I am not gay, but love film and it’s been fun to remember these movies along with y’all. The guy who complained that it is not compressive because they are just doing actresses just hasn’t paid attention. They have explained the format several times. While my film sensibilities tend to align more with Brandon’s reviews, Joey’s are not shallow, just much more black and white. He speaks more from the heart. Brandon appears to speak more from the brain It’s an excellent combo. Basically as film fans, better to sit back and enjoy both perspectives than to over think it. Hope y’all make it all the way down to the best documentary some day! GHF As an aside, down here where you can delete it if you need to... I know I’m trespassing on the LGBTQ site, but the challenges of anal intercourse were a bit more than I wanted to handle. Best to leave those intimate details to another Podcast if you want to expand your audience. While I am not homophobic, it was like listening to my grandmother talk about vaginal sex. Thanks.

LoganKenGiving me all that I wantFinally a podcast dedicated to the two Oscar categories that most interest me: lead and supporting actress. Enough of those podcasts that yap on and on talking about male this/male that (which is definitely what happens when you get into other categories since director/cinematographer/editing/craft categories are still so male heavy). My favorite take so far: the defense for Sally Kirkland in Anna. This is how I know you guys are actually watching these movies because only dummies would disregard Kirkland’s work in Anna. Worst take so far? Not so much a take as much as an inconsistency. One host says “so and so is just playing themself/doesn’t even seem like they’re acting,” and then in the very same episode will say, “oh, the hardest thing to do is look like you’re not acting.” So.....is it a good or bad thing to appear effortless? To me, the success of any star persona is to understand that, sure, this actor or actress (with whatever baggage they have) is now in this movie, but they’re still able to pull you into the given story and make you totally forget about said baggage.

Cleveland_Guy22Excellent for Academy Nerds! As someone who has watched maybe four movies (tv show person here), I’m invested because of the funny and knowledgeable hosts. If you LOVE MOVIES and LOVE AWARDS then you’ll dig this ditch!

Think BrinkBrandon yea, Joey nayI heard about this podcast from And the Runner-Up Is (which is excellent). For Oscar watchers/actressexuals, this is a (generally) fun trip down memory lane; however, it’s a stretch to call it an “LGBT guide” to the Oscars “per category, per year” because it only ever covers Best Actress and Bess Supporting Actress categories so is not exactly comprehensive (or particularly queer, other than that the two hosts are gay). And speaking of the hosts, Brandon sounds much more thoughtful, nuanced and like a real cinephile than Joey, who seems to be “here for” only broad, campy or over-the-top performances in films; otherwise, they’re dismissed as “boring.” No depth, no real substance—just basic, ignorant takes that are shallow at best. It would be nice to get richer, deeper, more analytical discussions of Oscars past, particularly given the time periods—and cultural forces—when these movies were made. P.S. Singular doesn’t mean single. (Those words have different meanings, Joey.)
