I’m glad I found this podcast. I listened to every episode in under three months. Jester offers a calming and relaxing tone with routine laughter as she provides great detail and explanation of her hiking experiences. This show is very informative with respect to a vast range of hiking guests and great gear reviews. (Including Dan Durston!) I only recently got into hiking and have aspersions to one day through hike the AT. Those dreams will have to wait since I have a family and a mortgage and that’s ok, because I get the privilege to complete trails one section at a time. Jester models how to successfully plan for and complete section hikes. I truly enjoy how she is relatable to those in the hiking community as she tells it how it is including the challenges and hardships as well as the successes. Please give this podcast a listen and I know you will appreciate it as much as I do.

Jester’s section-hiking podcasts are chock-full of useful information, especially on section hikes in the eastern US including the Appalachian Trail. Jester has a warm, pleasing style both when interviewing guests and when sharing her own vast knowledge and experience. Her passion for hiking and educating others is infectious.

It is great to have a podcast focus on section hiking. All though I have been a scoutmaster and led backpacking trips, I learn something on every episode! Julie and her guests make me laugh, challenge me to think and impart wisdom! Keep up the great show!!!

Have been enjoying the program for a year, look forward to 2022

I initally really liked this podcast and hearing from folks who were section hiking the AT. It seems like the focus has more and more become on trails and people of the Southeast, not section hikers from all over, so it doesn't really hold as much interest for me. As a CA hiker, I also thought the episode on planning/permit for the JMT was terrible - misinformation and incomplete information.

As a section hiker love following this pod cast I can relate to it and get great tips for upcoming trips

I stumbled across this podcast and I am so happy I did. I’m section hiking the Mountains to Sea Trail and Jester’s MST episodes have been so informative. Her other episodes are introducing me to other trails that I would like to tackle next and many other hikers. Hearing about their experiences and trials has given me confidence that I can do it. I hate to admit it but before I began listening I felt kind of like a second rate hiker because I wasn’t thru hiking but not any more. Thanks Jester.

Julie’s podcast is one I always look forward to because she is so informative, down to earth and real! Her series on the NC Mountains to the Sea Trail has been particularly enjoyable, but every episode in the series so far has been so good. Check this one out!

Julie does a terrific job on this podcast and as a fellow-outdoors/hiking podcaster I’m envious of how well spoken she is which makes her a true delight to listen to. I’ve particularly enjoyed her freestyle-format episodes live from the trail. Makes your feel like you’re out there in the woods instead of sitting in rush hour traffic, which is exactly what I want from a podcast. I also LOVE her intro song. It’s stuck in my head often. Absolutely worth subscribing to!

This is a great podcast! I’ve listened to a variety of hiking podcasts, but most are about thru hiking, and I’m not a thru hiker. Sometimes those podcasts just aren’t as interesting. As a section hiker, I like hearing about other section hikers. Jester has different guests from all over the place, so the podcast is also a great place to learn about other trails.

MST! As a transplant to NC from Minnesota, I’ve been fascinated with the MST since I first learned of it. I subscribe to Kate Dixon’s newsletter about the trail and This podcast was mentioned. Jester makes the MST accessible to the average day hiker in her series about the trail.

Well, section hiking has some advantages! On top of that list: I can start now! (Not wait until I am between jobs or retire). One of my main focuses as a mom is getting my boys out and active. This pod cast is just the knowledge and inspiration that I need to put away the screen and get outside! Can’t wait for more!

I was initially excited when I first heard this podcast was coming out. I’ve listened to every episode. This is a good podcast for hikers and backpackers just starting out. For those with more experience it’s so far too basic. Many section hikers have been at it for a number of years and don’t really need to hear the well-worn debate about boots versus trail runners. More about logistics, maintaining fitness between sections, and other issues that section hikers deal with would be helpful.

Jester is a prolific section hiker and all around outdoors lover. I have section hiked with Jester and enjoyed every trip. She knows her trails and maps and gear well. She always has a laugh and a deep respect for trail life. She supports the hiking community and other hikers young and old. You can bet her guests and friends will give you valuable input with every podcast. If you want hike - through hike or section hike- you will enjoy and relate to these podcasts.

I’ve found myself unintentionally captivated by the engaging stories told by the author (“Jester”) and her interviews with a varied who’s who of the Appalachian Trail. The laid back stories of these hikers are fun to listen to and give a glimpse into what unique adventures you can find on the trail.

This podcast makes me want to stay in the woods and never go back to work. Such great interviews! I feel like I am there with the guests on the trail and love the theme song.

Jester does a great job of interacting with her guests and working with them to weave and travel through their stories of section hiking the trails. Her love for the trail and trail community shines through! Also love her segment with Steve K., talking gear. Even though I’ve been section hiking for 5+ years, I’m still learning a lot through that segment. Lastly, there’s always a ton of time and space given for thru hikers to tell their stories so it’s absolutely awesome to have a space dedicated to us section hikers! I really like the format of Jester Section Hiker...Julie talking one to one with hikers sharing their experiences and feelings about section hiking. The stories and people are fascinating and the equipment discussion section is timely and helpful! Great Job Julie!

The way Jester repeats important points cements them in the listener’s mind. And then there’s that really wonderful laugh! Jester gives a dynamite interview while entertaining even her guests. Love her podcasts!!!

Like the show and enjoy the content, but hate the audio. Jester sounds like she is recording the show in her bathroom. Very hollow sounding with an echo. Invest in some new recording equipment.
