I found the pod thru the American Funeral Director magazine by the same publisher while working at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. As a young cemetarian (less than 30yo) who is just getting their start in deathcare, the accessibility of info in podcast format is exciting and engaging- I often was able to listen as I worked and was surprised to see guests who I have worked with personally at my cemetery for research and events, making the cemetery & funeral community feel that much more interconnected. The episodes thus far have given me insight into the mortuary and funeral director side of the deathcare industry that helped me in my customer service abilities at the cemetery and have improved my understanding of the steps in the process of caring for the deceased and their loved ones. Episodes on cemeteries have expanded my knowledge of both common and uncommon practices! Many deathcare pods tend to focus solely on the funeral director side OR the cemetery side of the industry, but the inclusion of both in FSI’s content lends itself to their inherent interconnectedness (tho being biased on the cemetery-side I’m always looking for more on burial grounds & practices!).
